چکیده

We describe a patient with chyluria due to abdominal Bancroftian filariasis. The patient showed two unusual complications, an immune complex glomerulonephritis and a chronic urinary infection. We also discuss the use of the CT whole body scanner in the diagnosis and delineation of the extent of the disease.

Acute eosinophilic glomerulonephritis with Bancroftian filariasis.

A case is reported of Bancroftian filariasis and acute immune complex glomerulonephritis in a 44-year-old man. Renal biopsy showed microfilariae and large numbers of eosinophils in the glomeruli (eosinophilic glomerulonephritis). The absence of other aetiological factors suggests that the glomerulonephritis may have been of filarial origin.

Hepatitis C virus-associated cryoglobulinemia with membrano-proliferative glomerulonephritis treated with prednisolone and interferon: A case report

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of liver-associated morbidity and has an increasing prevalence worldwide. Hepatitis C virus infection may lead to chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver failure. However, it is also associated with a wide range of extra-hepatic complications, such as cryoglobulinemia, an immune complex disease associated with cryoglobulin leading to multiple organ damage...

Hepatitis C-associated mixed cryoglobulinaemia: a crossroad between autoimmunity and lymphoproliferation.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is the second most cocmmon chronic viral infection in the world with a global prevalence of about 2%. Chronic HCV infection is commonly associated with a number of extrahepatic complications. Circulating mixed cryoglobulins (MCs) are detected in 40-60% of HCV-infected patients whereas overt cryoglobulinaemia vasculitis develops in only 5-10% of the cases. MC re...

Lupus-Like Immune Complex-Mediated Glomerulonephritis in Patients With Hepatitis C Virus Infection Treated With Oral, Interferon-Free, Direct-Acting Antiviral Therapy

Novel, all-oral interferon-free direct-acting antiviral agents have revolutionized the management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by producing exceptional cure rates with minimal adverse events. While provocation or exacerbation of autoimmunity has been reported in HCV-infected patients receiving interferon, this phenomenon has not been reported in patients receiving interferon-free HCV th...
